- Now a days almost every home has internet, with rapid development in Internet of things every electronic device can access to internet.
- This increased usage internet especially in large houses, the wifi signal is less at corners or some rooms.
- One solution is you can put another network but it is more expensive and drill the wall to extend the wires it's weird choice the solution for this problem is Repeater.
What is Repeater ?
Repeater is an electronic device that receives a signal and retransmits it. Repeaters are used to extend transmissions so that the signal can cover longer distances.
The disadvantage of repeater is it halves the bandwidth for any computers connecting to it. The reason for this is that the repeater receives the signal, processes the signal (which takes time) and then rebroadcasts the signal and does this in both directions, from the router to the computer and from the computer to the router.
Difference between Repeater and Extender ?
- Consider this scenario, we have a network A with extender we can capture the wifi signal boost it and it retransmits with the different name B.
- Now your connected to extender (B) if you want to operate/monitor the devices which connected to A it's not possible.
- But Repeater keeps the original network name and boasting the signal.
How to configure Repeater ?
- Go to your repeater IP address and enter the login details.
- Goto Network --> LAN --> Gateway, it should be primary router IP address.
- In wireless tab select repeater as a operation mode and click enter it'll scan the existing wifi networks that are available and select your primary network.
- You can also set password and then reboot it.
