JPEG :
- JPEG's images were designed to make detailed photographic images as small as possible by removing information that the human eye won't notice.
- It can be fine-tuned as per requirements, to create smaller file sizes. It is Good for Photographs.
Pros of JPEG:
- Small image size.
- 24-bit color, with up to 16 million colors.
- Rich colors, great for photographs that need fine attention to color detail.
- Most used and most widely accepted image format.
- Compatible in most OS (Mac, PC, Linux).
- Perfect for most images.
Cons of JPEG:
- They tend to discard a lot of data.
- After compression, it'll loses quality.
- Cannot be animated.
- Does not support transparency.
- Every time a JPEG is saved, it loses more and more of the picture.
BMP :
- An uncompressed image file format which stores data in raw form, saving as BMP results in very large file sizes..
- If we want to edit our self from the scratch level we can use BMP format.
Pros of BMP:
- High image quality.
- Easy to edit and change.
- No image loss through process.
- Works well with most Windows programs and OS, we can use it as a Windows wallpaper.
Cons of BMP:
- Large file size.
- Does not scale or compress well.
- Not usually displayable on internet.
- very huge image files making, it is not web friendly.
- It's not a good choice over other image formats.
- BMP stands for Bitmap, while JPG follows the standard formulated by the Joint Photographic Experts Group.
- BMP format files are uncompressed bitmapped images, while those with a JPG format are compressed digital images.
- BMP formatted images have a higher resolution than JPG images.
- BMP images are larger in size when compared to JPG images.
- JPG images, being easily downloadable, are preferred over BMP images for web use.
- BMP images are of a higher quality than JPG images.
